Weird and Wonderful

Statement of Intent

For my “Weird and Wonderful” project my main focus is portrait and landscape photography. I wanted to combine these two genes together as I enjoyed exploring both and would like to develop my skills in these and see what I can come up with if I do combine them together. I will be focusing on the theme of Alice in Wonderful, the 20s and nature. I would like to combine the weirdness of Alice in Wonderland with the beauty of the 20s and nature. I would like to show the wildness of the city the partying, drinking and being reckless, with my models dressed in 20s clothes to show the riches and wealth of people. Coming out of the city, into where they originally came from, nature. I will be getting inspiration from the portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz, I will try and combine her over-the-top, fantasy, eccentric style, with her surrealist photography into my work. I will also try and capture the beauty of the nature I will be shooting of the landscapes into the work which will also add to my overall outcome with the fantasy and surrealistic style.

Annie Leibovitz's work that inspired me...

I like the fact the Annie Leibovitz's work always has the over-the-top, exaggerated feel to it but it always stays elegant and sophisticated, as it can get hard to balance the exaggerated and sophisticated bits of the photography, as a picture can start to look a bit cheap and unprofessional. I also Love the way she uses lighting to create an effect of fantasy and mystery, it can change your mood to what she wants you to think. I also like the fact that she used bold striking colours that stand out, but don't over power the whole persona of the photograph.
